Belly
dance is a beautiful, sensual and spiritual art form, which is steeped, in
a wonderfully multifaceted and dynamic culture. It has a texture and a resonance
that should be treasured with enthusiasm and valued with pride.
The Middle Eastern Dance Association of Southern Africa (MEDASA) is
an exiting initiative, which is committed to the development of the dance
through education and by providing opportunities to teachers, students and
the public to acquire a greater and more accurate understanding and appreciation
of the art. This understanding would naturally need to extend to the many
cultures from which it has developed. (read more about our objectives,
values and ethics
here)
The founding members of the association recognize that if a true and authentic understanding of Middle Eastern dance is to be achieved, a great deal of commitment, study and travel is essential, as the dance is not endemic to this region.
These members are a highly respected and knowledgeable team of teachers, performers and dance enthusiasts who are committed to the upliftment of Middle Eastern dance. They are ideally placed to ensure that this wonderful art form is afforded the respect and recognition which it so rightfully deserves, but so often seems to lack.
